Fist trip to Warsaw, advice please

My wife and I are traveling to Warsaw on the 30th November for our first visit. We are staying (we believe) near the city centre in the Polonia Palace hotel for 3 nights. Can anyone advise us what the "must do's" are whilst we are there. We would like to do some kind of city tour as well, anybody got any recommendations ?

Also any ideas on good restaurants to eat at, whilst we are here I would like to spoil the wife with a good meal in romantic surroundings.

Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks all

You are right, the Polonia Palace has a very central location in the city center, on Warsaw's busiest roundabout, near many bus and tram routes and the metro line and quite close to the historical areas. It's opposite the Palace of Culture and near shopping facilities but the area around the hotel is not really charming. However, you are in the middle of everything.

There are fewer tourists in Warsaw in late autumn and winter compared to summer months so also the number of city tours is rather limited. Still, there are companies offering (individual) tours and also the hop-on hop-off bus should be operating.

The main attractions are the pedestrianized old town with its squares, churches and the royal castle and the so- called Royal route where lots of respresentative buildings as the presidential palace as well as lots of churches are located. Łazienki park and palace is well worth a visit, however it's more beautiful in summer. The Uprising museum should not be missed as many consider it to be the best museum in Poland. Other attractions include Wilanów palace, Palace of Culture, national museum, Chopin museum, Copernicus science center etc. It really depends on your interests......

There are several romantic restaurants in beautiful surroundings as e.g. Bazyliszek, U Fukiera, Pod Gigantami. They are quite upmarket but probably still much cheaper than comparable restaurants in the UK.

the polonia has a really great breakfast....dont miss it.....the bar is quite nice for a nitecap before calling it a day....in the blocks behind the hotel are alot of nice non touristy restaurants....delizia for upscale italian and u szwejka for lively and downhome food come to mind....but peruse the list on here for ideas.....you can change your money around the corner at the metropol hotel.....get a doba, its a 24 hour pass that allows you access to all public transpo.....fortunately you are right there where it all comes together....zip around town fast, easily and inexpensively......dont miss the newly renovated wilanow palace on the outskirts or the royal castle....walk or take the tram to nowy swiat....and walk towards the old town....this is called the royal route......for a good museum check out the warsaw uprising museum....or the chopin museum for an interesting but small museum

Best breakfast in warsaw at the polonia. Do sunday brunch at the marriott which is very close by. Weathers getting colder but some good walks along nowy swiat with some stop offs for coffee. For a romantic dinner ask the concierge to book restauracja rozana which is about ten mins by tax from the polonia. Visit Lazienki Park which is a twenty five minute walk. Really beautiful at this time of year. For evening drinks Foksal Stret is close by as is Plac Trzech Krzechy. Have a gear weekend in Warsaw
