Accommodation near Melbourne on coast

We are looking for accommodation near the beach close to Melbourne. We will not have a car and our budget is $200 per night Max.

Looking for a room with a balcony and preferably an outdoor pool.

Any idea on the best area would be appreciated.

Many thanks

Depending on where u want to stay - & how close u want to be located to Melbourne ?

Mornington Peninsula which has lovely beaches. My favourite being Sorrento. The Sorrento Hotel has no pool but does have nice apartments with balconies. The beach is across the road.

If wanting to be closer - St Kilda is beach / bay side suburb of Melbourne.

Another destination along the Great Ocean Road you have Apollo Bay / Lorne which are lovely beachside towns.

St Kilda? Iconic, Melbourne and beachy. Tramline into the CBD. Base your accommodation searches around there.

When we go to Melbourne we stay in the CBD because we do CBD-type things, or want to get to various places in different directions from the CBD, but if I wanted to be on the beach I'd stay in St Kilda.

Do bear in mind that if you want to do other stuff while you're there, most things will be at least one tram ride from where you are staying. You could get CBD accommodation for under $200 per night and then know that the beach is only a tram ride away.

Please be advised that St Kilda beach is an inner city beach. It is not the best beach to represent Victoria but it is still the seaside, if that is what you are looking for. Maybe a bit closer down the road to Port Melb/South Melb might be cleaner ? but not sure if it will suit your budget though.

Thanks for your comments and advice.

We are staying in CBD area docklands for 4 days and we're looking for a change. Perhaps staying in Melbourne for 8 dys would be preferable

What time of the year are you coming? Have you thought about staying 1 or 2 nights in Geelong or further along the Great Ocean Road, such as Lorne, Anglesea or Torquay?
