Marrakech to Sidi Ifni via Taroudant

Hi, I'm hoping to go this route in mid to late May, staying overnight in Taroudant. Hope to hire a driver in Marrakech. Any suggestions about this route? Pros or cons? If we were to hire a driver for, say, four or five days, what should we expect to pay?

Thanks very much.

Khamlia is right, its easy, cheap car hire and good roads, you might consider

grand taxies and buses as you will gain far more pleasure and local contact

with these modes of transport.Do not miss Mireleft,Tafraoute or Tiznit as

they are on your way...happy days

You can do it for sure with a Driver, as you can check the search box for recommended Drivers, or ask your accommodation in Marrakech to arrange you a private Driver to make your trip, You might expect to pay 130 Euros/per day, or use the advice given to you by Khamlia as it works better to have the experience of the driving in Morocco, and enjoying the landscape in sous Region.

Have fun.

Thank you all for the responses and advice! We will be staying in Mirleft instead of Sidi Ifni (going there for a day trip instead), and then up to Essaouira before returning to Marrakech. Based on your responses, we may do some of that with a driver then some by grande taxi and/or bus. Really looking forward to this first trip to Morocco and already thinking about the next one!

Cheers--

Hi Holly,

You can do the whole trip by grande taxi. Good idea to stay a night once you reach Taroudant, as Marrakech to Taroudant is about an 8 hr drive, but awesomely scenic going via Tizi 'n Test. It was 100dh per seat in 2009, but might be a bit more now.

From Taroudant, first you taxi to the travel hub at Inezgane (pronounced "inzgun"), where you can get a grande taxi direct to Sidi Ifni, but it passes through Mirleft on the way there, and you can ask the driver to stop for you (50dh per seat). As it's close, you can get to Sidi Ifni by bus or taxi for about 10dh.

You might want to somehow make a stop at Legzira Beach which is about 7km north of Sidi Ifni, on your way up to Essaouira.

Have a wonderful trip!

Thanks David, very helpful. Wow, 8 hours! That's a bit longer than I thought; I had hoped to stop for lunch ar ouirgane (sp?) on the way, but now it seems maybe we should just push through somehow? (do grande taxis stop for lunch?)

I'd cut it back to maybe seven hours, but yes, travel in Morocco is slower than most people realise, especially if you're going to stop and take a pile of photos. It's a spectacular drive.

One rather energetic option for your day trip to Sidi Ifni is

(1) check the tide times at Mirleft and plan this on a falling tide

(2) get a grand taxi to drop you at Legzira beach 8km north of Sidi Ifni

(3) have lunch there, loads of choice of places to eat

(4) walk (hence falling tide) along beach to Sidi Ifni

(5) check out the town and get grand taxi back to Mirleft afterwards

I've just come back from Sidi Ifni, I planned to stop two or three nights and ended up staying eleven!

Hallo Holly,

you can take public transport to Agadir and hire a rental car there, continue to

Sidi Ifni (visit Tiznit and Mirleft) .From Sidi Ifni ,you can make day trip to Plage Blanche(south) and to Legzira.

Go back to Tiznit, climb up to Tafraout ( Anti-Atlas),day trip to Ait Mansour and another to Ameln valley.

You can reach Taroudant via Ait Baha(see beautiful Tizorgane en route)

Leave your car in Agadir and continue to Essa with public transport or grande taxi.

Sidi Ifni is lovely town, forgotten by tourists.

You can drive this route without problems.

We rented Kangoo for 40 euros/day and something like Clio for 32.
