Family with teens planning trip to Spain in 2013

Family willl be traveling to Madrid June 2013 I am planning daytrips and wonder if staying in Madrid is the best idea. Favorite daytrips for teens? Also driving vs flying to Barcelona? Looking for advice for some beach time, do you recommend renting a car in Barcelona and driving to Costa Brava? Thanks

Train would be the best way to travel for day trips www.renfe.es

Madrid to Toledo, Segovia or Avila.

Renfe train Madrid to Barcelona, and then you can consider renting a car to travel the Costa Brava.

The teens enjoy visiting Montserrat, travelling up the mountain by cable car and the boys choir usually sing in the chapel at 13.00

Erin:

Read the top questions in the Madrid forum. There are many daytrips you can do from Madrid and the most popular are those that go to Toledo and Segovia.

You can take the AVE between Madrid and Barcelona. Read Buying Renfe Tickets Online.

You can rent the car in Barcelona to visit the Costa Brava. Try to see the medieval village of Besalu.

I'm a Spanish teacher and have taken several student groups to Spain. Teens love a day tip to Segovia (castle, aqueduct, suckling pig at Meson Jose Maria). Take a train or bus from Madrid. Teens might get bored with Toledo.

Take the AVE from Madrid to Barcelona. Consider Tossa de Mar for a beach day. It's stunning!

Thank you for your reply, I have Madrid mostly planned and am about to start on Barcelona. Would you book the train from Madrid to Barcelona from the states or maybe just when we arrive in Madrid? I was looking into Stiges for a day trip to the coast but I will look into Tossa De Mar as well. We are very excited and appreciate any advice.

Try to book the train from the US to be able to get the web discounts.

Hi, I am planning a trip to Spain in Oct - 10 day break for UK...My son is 14 and it will be just parents and us as we just moved to London. I have no idea of which towns we should go to, focusing on wanting to give son some culture but mainly wanting him t enjoy it.

What would be your opinion of the towns to visit in a 7 day trip approx?

Tks a lot! Hope you can help!...Spanish Teacher right?
