Honningsvag on a Sunday

Our ship will be in port from 9am to 8pm in a Sunday in early June 2013. Since we will be coming from a point further north (Spitsbergen island), the North Cape isn't that special to me...especially if odds are that it will be foggy. (I've got that view from my house right now- fog!)

Is there anything else to do in the area for the day...a Sunday? As i understand it, the busses dont run on Sundays. If it's foggy at North Cape, will it be so back in town? Is there any small hikes worth taking near town?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Honningsvåg is a working fishing town, rather rough at the edges. The big thing for tourists is North Cape and this would be the only reason why a cruise ship is docking in Honningsvåg.

On a Sunday you may find that the kiosk/convenience store, the souvenir shop and perhaps the ice bar are open.

You can find hiking trails on this map

Honningsvåg is very exposed to the elements (on an island, open sea, no trees) and in early June it can still be cold. And sometimes it can be foggy too due to this exposed location.

To get an idea of the plateau itself, try the timelapse web cam by selecting a relevant date.

There are not a lot of buses, info here

If you are not going to the North Cape, consider visiting the North Cape Museum: nordkapp.no/nordkappmuseet-honningsvaag.5626…
