Flies at end of October?

We have booked a trip for 7 days that straddles end Oct/begiining Nov spending our time in Albany, Walpole and Pemberton. I have just read on another post that this might be peak time for flies - are these regular flies, biting flies, are they deterred by repellant, more common on the coast or in the forests, will they spoit our trip? Are mozzies about at this time as well?

Not the sort of thing the guidebooks tell you about!

1. Re: Flies at end of October?

Ive never experienced a fly problem in any of those areas you are visiting in October/November and Ive visited those areas pretty much every year at that time for the last 25 odd years. The fly issue is mainly around the Margaret River region and inland as far as perhaps Bridgetown but only becoming a problem during summer (December onwards). There will be a few flies around no doubt (non biting type...just the nuisance type) but not anywhere near the same numbers as experienced during summer.

Oct/Nov is actually (IMO) one of the best times to visit the southwest. Good chance of fine sunny weather but not hot.

Also not noticed any problem with mozzies either. If you find it is a problem, just grab a roll on repellent from one of the supermarkets down there.
