Whale world and Middleton Beach Walk

We'll be arriving by ship in March for 8 hours. Do they have shuttles or transport to the Whaling Station? Also is the Beachwalk close to town and how long is it? Is it feasible to try and do both in the time we have? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks

The ship will organise tours that take in all the attractions and it is best to book onto one or organise to hire a car for the day as there is a lot to see around Albany and you cannot do it by public transport. The ship will dock close to the town end of the Beachwalk so even if you don't have time for the whole walk you could walk towards Middleton Beach then back in what time you have available before sailing. In March it could be very hot and not suitable weather for walking far, especially in the middle of the day.

I've just come back from working at the Albany Cruise Ship Markets today!

Yes, Whale World do organise a shuttle bus to the Whaling station and back from the Markets in the main street on the hour. Their stand is staffed by Whale World staff and have all the information you need. A shuttle bus service runs from the ship to the town centre constantly which will drop you across the road from the Markets. From there you can catch the Whaling Station shuttle at a time to suit you. First bus to Whale world usually leaves at 10am.

There are a range of tours on offer, including the Whale World shuttle bus at the markets. These are cheaper and more flexible than the ships and include bus, harley and private car (jaguar or Rolls) tours

The boardwalk to Middleton Beach and beyond is up the hill from the wharf. A couple of other suggestions for the board walk is to hire a bicycle in the town centre markets or maybe take a taxi to Middleton Beach and walk back. The walk from Town to Middleton Beach is about an hour return and well worth doing.

The weather in March is usually nice, not too hot, but can be anything on the day. You should have time for both but it really depends on how long you spend in Whale World

Very handy info Julie. Just thinking that as we are getting quite a few cruise ships stopping around the west and south coast lines (Esperance, Albany, Geraldton, Broome - off the top of my head) - maybe we could make a travellers article containing exactly this kind of stuff for each place - to help cruise passengers.

Albany always puts on a great welcome for the cruise ships and we get lots of comments about it. In fact other ports have come to Albany to see what we do so well.

While it would be a great idea to have some information for cruise ship passengers, it does vary from ship to ship eg: if a tour company has another booking. What's on offer can also depend on the amount of time in port too as those offering longer tours cannot operate on those shorter times.

A little more information on the Whale World shuttles for cruise ships is on their website:
