I do not want to take a car to BM and plan to take the train from Sydney and then use the trolley bus for sightseeing. How far from the train station in Katoomba to hotels..thanks

Which hotel? As any map shows, the station is in the centre of town. We walked from the train down the the Scenic World and Echo Point - it's a 40 minute walk. It's a small town. Enjoy your trip!

Hi there

1st time to Bathurst 1000. Accom @ premium (some of Lithgow already full). Could we stay in Katoomba and commute by train? (no car).

Have a look at the train timetables. There's only one train a day that stops at Katoomba on the way to Bathurst (19;42) and one train a day that stops at Katoomba from Bathurst on the way to the city (7:25 am) I don't think that suits you!

Actually in oct during bathurst there is a train that leaves Katoomba around 9 and gets into Bathurst around 11.

Worth it IMHO no

Have you looked at Blayney and Oberon?

Blayney may have shuttles operating?

Its pretty reasonable uphill walk from bathurst station to the track.

Have you contacted bathurst visitor centre?

Thanks sooo much - great ideas. will investigate. Bathurst is the main topic of conversation in our household around the dinner table at the moment. It's a long-held dream for the main man. And the son is definitely buying into the dream. Me? well .... I might have to find somewhere to go shopping!
