Blue Mountains Music Festival

My husband and I are going to be visiting Australia for the first time in March. I have been planning the trip using all the invaluable advice on the forums but have run into a snag! We arrive in Sydney on Tuesday, March 9 and were planning to stay in the city until Saturday and then visit the Blue Mountains for two days before making our way to Bathurst, where my husband will be working the next week. Since that is the weekend of the music festival, almost all the accomodation around Katoomba is booked. Is there anywhere else that we should stay or is it just best to avoid the area completely since everywhere will be packed and go for a day trip from Sydney?

Thanks!

hey there

Penrith lies at the foot of the mountains & is the outer suburb of the Sydney Basin. The Panthers complex has a 200+ hotel called the Chifley Hotel Penrith which is 3-4 star & on a huge entertainment complex with several restuarants & 24 hr casino machines. It is less than an hour from Katoomba via the Great Western hwy. Panthers is just off on Mulgoa road & intersects the M4/Great Western hwy. Blacktown is 28kms down the M4 motorway & Parramatta is 35 kms. TA has several options in these places if your interested. Safe travelling

Could you not visit on your way back from Bathurst?

If that's not an option I would probably just do a day trip from Sydney during the week when it is much quieter. W/ends generally are busy in the BM's without the added crowds of the music festival.

While 2 days would certainly be lot better than just the one, if you get up there early enough you can see quite a lot in just one. (possibly as much as you'd see in 2 very busy days at the w/end!)

Thank you both for your replies. We have decided to go with Mikey36's suggestion of just doing a day trip mid week and then seeing anything we missed on the way to Bathurst on Sunday. I think that will work out fine. We are flying to Adelaide on Thursday night, on our way to Kangaroo Island so stopping on the way back from Bathurst won't be an option. Can't wait for our trip!
