Travel and food in Umbria

We will be in Umbria November 2-11, 2013

Is this truffle time? If so, which truffle or which area of Umbria

Are there any festivals or events ant this time in the area.

We will be staying near Perugia, however we are very adventurous and have a car

Any suggestions for restaraunts and or events or activities at this time?

Thank-you

There will be the olive oil feast (festa dell'olio) in Trevi and Campello sul Clitunno.

you could find truffles almost all year round, but especially in Valnerina, You need to stroll into Norcia main street once, taking photos and tasting small goods and cheeses.

Nearby, Cascia is a faith destination with the Sanctuary of Santa Rita.

If stopping at Settecamini in Campello s. C., look for Vincanta (see TA reviews).

A great all around festival that period is the Festa del Bosco in Montone - they have everything - olive oil, truffles, mushrooms, beer, great cheeses, food etc - not to be missed!

Thank you for the information

I love shopping as well, so we must visit Foligno one afternoon for shopping and dinner

Perhaps a Sunday morning drive to the Basilica of St. Rita and then into Norcia.

Another day to the enoteca I in Compello and Spoleto. What time of day is good to visit the Enoteca

We are staying outside of Perugia, so we will go there as well probably for dinner at la Taverna where we have been before.

If we wanted to venture out and drive to the coast where would you suggest we go to the east of Umbria

We used Foligno as our base and spent three nights there going to three VERY good restaurants. I don't really know what you want to buy, but I'd save the shopping or the bigger cities. I'd concentrate on the food in Foligno.

This would be for dinner as I don't know if they are open for lunch. But we tried 3 excellent ones.

Il Cavalieri at via XX de Settembre, 39

Premiata Officina del Gusto on the Piazza Don Minzoni

Ristorante Mangiafuoco on Viale IV de Novembre, 11

I would reserve just to make sure.

Cyndy, if you're lucky with the weather, could go to Gola del Furlo, perhaps stopping to Gubbio early on the way or returning early in the afternoon. Near these gorges there is an historic hotel with a fine restaurant.

In Gubbio itself La Taverna del Lupo and the Park Hotel ai Cappuccini are the local "institutions" for diners.

But remember to check the weather forecast because in November drivers could be trapped in the fog either in the planes or uphills.

As you will no doubt visit the smaller villages try L'AlChimista in montefalco tripadvisor.com.au/Restaurant_Review-g608939…

we always book tho.

Spello..... a good view from the bar giardino.....just a good spot to have an aperol Spritzer .

Inside Bevagna at Asuntas......Tiny place near main piazza only seats 12m inside but has a good wall to wall collection of disaray.

maybe a bit of char on the open fire at La stalla outside/ above Assisi

we tend to cruise and stop whenever so try as you go.

as others have said Foligno is not what we term a shopping destination.....probably better in Perugia
