Gran Bahia Principe El Portillo

Hi, thinking of going at the end of June. Can anyone tell me:

What's the ride from the airport like?

Is the beach crowded? Do you need to reserve your spot early in the morning?

Are the standard rooms sufficient?

Is it a short walk from the rooms to the beach?

Flies?

Is the main dining room (buffet) air conditioned?

Thanks so much!

I believe all operators take the toll road from Samana. It is a very beautiful drive over high hills from. South to the north side of the peninsula. Approx. 45 minutes, with speed never exceeding 70 kph. See my pictures for some of the stunning views. If you come from any other airport it will be a long drive, up to 4 hours and take some gravol.

Beach is fantastic with lots of palapas and loungers. The towel game is played with the choice spots on the point taken early. Going east down the shore you should be able to find lots of shade spots. The palapas are 3 deep.

There are only two room sizes. Standard and suites. We never stayed or viewed a standard but I understand they are more than sufficient. You get a larger bathroom and shower in the suites.

Yes, the walk is short from the rear of the resort to the front. They have shuttle carts if you call the desk. Sidewalks meander through the resort and offer many views of beautiful landscaping. 5 minute walk tops.

No flies or Mosquitos when we were there in January. Pack spray anyways. We had no sand flea bites.

Buffet is sir conditioned.

Enjoy!

Airport transfer was 45 minutes with some stunning views along the way!

Went from 30th May for two weeks and never once had a problem with finding a bed on the beach although the ones under the umbrellas went quite quickly.

The resort borders the beach so walking distance is negligible.

There is air-con in the buffet but it wasn't always switched on. There is also an outside section to the buffet restaurant.
