Any advice would be great- First trip to Australia with 2 kids (13, 16). What are the must see's/do's for the area. My first thought was 1 day to see the Darwin sights and 2 days in Kakadu and skip Litchfield. Current itinerary which can be adjusted or thrown out is as follows:
Day 1: From Darwin To Kakadu.
You'll depart Darwin by 4WD and travel along the Arnham Highway into Kakadu National Park, crossing the South Alligator River to the World Heritage Area of Ubirr where you'll climb up through the ancient Aboriginal rock art galleries to the lookout for the view over surrounding wetlands. You'll next visit the Bowali Visitor Centre and Continue to Cooinda to join Kakadu's famous Yellow Water Wetlands Cruise to experience the beauty of Kakadu.
Overnight: Gagudju Cooinda Lodge
Day 2: From Kakadu To Darwin.
Today's highlights include a fascinating visit to Nourlangie region. After a short drive from Cooinda to the Nourlangie rock art site, you'll join your driver guide to explore the various galleries and hear an insightful interpretation of the rich Aboriginal cultural history of the area. Then you're off to visit Anbangbang Billabong, with its paperbark swamps, fringing woodlands and a sandstone plateau scrub - a good place to view a range of wildlife. A large number of water fowl and wading birds inhabit the billabong and many wallabies can be found grazing around the water's edge. Later in the day, venture off the beaten track to Maguk (Barramundi Gorge), where a 2km return walk through paperbark forest leads to a small waterfall and clear plunge pool with the opportunity to swim. Return to Darwin on the old 4WD Jim Jim Road
Thank you!!!! Heather
