Family lodging in Palmerston North

My family is having difficulty finding lodging in Palmerston North for two nights in April. We have 3 kids under five. Many hotels seem to be booked and the Kingsgate is available but has terrible reviews on tripadvisor. Any ideas for family lodging in or around Palmerston North? Has anyone tried the PN holiday park?

I guess it may depend on your budget and the type of accommodation you require. Have you looked at the AA Travel website? There is such a lot of accommodation available in Palmerston North and you could consider a motel or serviced apartment if you want to have a bit more room than a hotel can offer.

We have stayed at the Novotel which was in a great location near to the centre of town but could perhaps be a bit pricey for you, especially if you need a larger family room. As you are staying in April you could look now on the Wotif website for bargains.

Have you tried Feilding? It's only 20 mins from P.N. and is a great country town. (has won NZ's most beautiful town 13 times!)

You haven't said what dates you are wanting, but just so you know School holidays start here on the 18th April - 5 may and Anzac day is friday 25th this year which means a long weekend.

Not sure if there is anything on on PN then, but quite often there is some tournament on.

I have stayed in the Kingsgate many times, and never had the kind of experience reported in the reviews. I normally stay in the older part - sure, it is not flash, but it is good value for the money and I've not had problems with lack of cleanliness. Last time I was there, I was in the new part, with a free breakfast thrown in - for the $99, it was great value. My mum has also stayed a few times, she liked it so much last time, she stayed an extra night.

But there are about a million motels in Palmerston North - use somewhere like travelbug.co.nz to book them. Another family freindly cheapish option is the Sherwood - http://www.sherwood.net.nz

Hi betty030

Try Aubyn Court Motor Lodge. They have a two bedroom unit, we stayed there last time we were in Palmy. They have a two bedroom unit that is really nice (more like an upscale apartment). We had 4 adults and two little ones and found it more than enough room.

A lot nicer than the Kingsgate and a lot cheaper!

A few months before we decided to stay in Levin instead of Palmerston. Not a lot there and you're looking at the same kind of prices.
