Hello dresdon,

We just returned from Australia. We took the Prospector from Perth to Kalgoorlie. The train was modern and well run, very comfortable.

You have to purchase your food from the buffet car, which is usually located in the first car. You order and pay and then the attendants deliver the food to you in your seat. We had breakfast at our hotel before boarding, so didn't order breakfast, but did order lunch. It was about $10 and there was a choice of beef or chicken. Beef was good and the chicken was bad. Snacks are also available and they may have been better than choosing the hot chicken meal. We made a twenty minute stop about half way to Kalgoorlie at Merredin. All the passengers were able to exit the train and stretch their legs and then re-board. The movies were ones we had already seen on our domestic flights within Australia. The screen was light and a little hard to see. It was a very pleasant trip and you certainly get to see the Australian countryside.

Hope you enjoy the trip. Kalgoorlie is certainly an interesting town, the architecture of the old buildings is fascinating. Enjoy!!
