You haven't said when or how you are travelling there but I understand Goldfields tourism has taken a 20% hit due to the recent fuel hikes so you might do a good deal right now on accommodation and organised day tours.
Definately stay at least three days and make sure you are there on
a weekend. Kalgoorlie's nightlife is awsome and the resteraunts are suprisingly good. Also, make sure you check out the super pit and the museum with the gold vault at the end of Hannan Street.
Two days is enough IMO to see everything major.
