launceston and low head acommodation booked what can we see

Hi we are traveling for 13 days with 4 days in Launceston and 9 days at Low Head and have 3 boys aged 12, 15 and 17 and would like to know how far we could travel and what to visit when in Low Head. E.G Could we visit Cradle Mountain or wine glass bay in a day trip and where else is great. Thanks Sue

Three teenage boys!! They're a challenge to entertain on holidays, I'll bet!

Yes, you can get to Cradle Mountain and back in a looong day from Launceston, but it's about 2.5 hours each way. It would be preferable if you could do it in 2 and stay overnight. Cradle is expensive, but try Cosy Cabins.

Similarly, Wineglass Bay at Freycinet National Park is about 2.5 hours each way from Launceston.

Anyway, I'll just give you a big long list of boyish things to do and you can search them out:

Hollybank (expensive but superb for boys)

Pearns Steam World

Boag's Brewery tour

National Automobile Museum of Tasmania

Queen Victoria Museum in the old railway workshops at Inveresk,

Cataract Gorge, especially the zigzag track and Duck Reach (send them off alone with a cut lunch while you have lunch in the cafe in the gardens),

Ben Lomond

Liffey Falls

Penguins at Low Head

Lighthouse and Pilot Station

Bass and Flinders Centre maritime museum

Batman Bridge

Beaconsfield Heritage Gold Mine

Platypus House

Seahorse World

Ah Ping lease walk

Evercreech (and other forestry reserves) forestrytas.com.au/visiting/…north-east

Ralph's Falls

St Columba Falls

Pub (and pig) in the paddock

Mount Direction semaphore

Narawntapu

Woolmers

Brickendon

Warrawee Reserve

Hawley Beach fish and chips

Don River Railway

Great Lake and Poatina pipeline

Bay of Fires

That'll do. :)

You're in the right neck of the woods for fishing charters.

Mako Fishing Charters is at George Town (very close to Low Head) No website, but here: 39 Cimitiere Street, George Town - 0419 357 028

At Bridport (not far) there's these two http://www.seafishingonline.com/BRIDPORT.htm

St Helens is the main place to do a fishing charter, but it'd take a couple of hours to get there. Info on this thread: tripadvisor.com.au/ShowTopic-g255096-i887-k3…

You don't need a licence for saltwater fishing, but if it's freshwater, see here: …tas.gov.au/inter.nsf/WebPages/ALIR-4YB2WH…

Size limits for all fish on the bottom of that page.
