3 days in Mackay

A friend of mine and myself will be driving up from Toowoomba to Tully, Mackay looks like a must stop during our road trip, we plan to stop by in Mackay for 3 days, 2 nights, staying at camp sites and hopefully to get the best out of Mackay, anyone out here have any ideas of any must see places or beachs, national parks you would recommend? Cheers!

Hi Maureen,

A must is Eungella Nat Park, great spot for walks and spotting platypus -

Thanks for your idea, Rob. Taking a break from internet research, listed a few places I wanna go, the Eungella National Park is on the list!!! But how about Cape Hillsborough Nation Park? Is it worth checking out too??

If you are coming through mackay, check out what events are on. Mackay is certainly top of the hill when it comes to great events and festivals. River Sessions (Music Festival), The Marina Fun Run (Bigest Fun race outside of metro area), Food & Wine Festival (20,000 attend this) & my favourite, The Mackay Airport Beach Horse Racing Festival in August (12 horse races, Live festival bands, Kid's entertainment.....it is a cracking weekend)...

Cape Hillsborough is nice, with walks and a pretty beach. However- the camp ground gets absolutely packed full.

Definitely visit the Eungella National Park. Ball Bay is located approx. 35 kms north of Mackay is a lovely basic camping ground.
