Help! where to stay in the Gold coast

Hi all I haven't used this forum for ages but are in need of some much needed advice now:

My mother and I are going over to Austrailia on the 9th of October for a month to stay with family, we don't drive so would have to get around ourselves, while we are there we want to make the most of it, we want to go to the Gold Coast, as they have some lovely beaches, but I have not idea where to stay, we only need stay in a motel or something similar as a base, we want to stay somewhere on the actual Gold Coast strip itself ideally situated next to the beach or not far from it, restaurants and shops, as well as staying here we would like to go to Surfers Paradise so would it be possible does anyone know to stay somewhere for a bit and within easy access of the two or would we have to split the two up?

Also we plan a trip to Sydney are their any cheap places to stay there and what would you recommend doing as a must?

any advice would be greatly apprepiated, as I would like to make this trip for my much older mother special.

Hi Samantha

Just to let you know that the Indycar racing is on at Surfers Paradise towards the end of October so you may want to go there first. Why not make Brisbane your base and then travel out. For last minute, cheap accomadation you could try www.wotif.com.au, you can only book 28 days in advance, but hotel/motel prices are greatly reduced.

Good luck - Joanne

I think based on the fact that you dont drive, maybe look at just outside surfers paradise if you want. I personally usually stay in Coolangatta where the airplanes land (Gold Coast airport) just outside of there 10 mins away from, and the planes dont bother you at all.

But, we have a car usually to travel.Although personally dont like the vibe of Surfers.

So you may want to look at inbetweeen Surfers and the airport areas.

There are loads of accomm choices, all ranges, but get booking soon!!

You have Broadbeach, just outside Surfers, loads of accomm, or you may want to go a bit further out.

The public transport is pretty good and well priced.

Just look at choices of accomm on here and search for prices yourself, or via email the property.

Asking other travel reviewers for tips ofcourse.

Sydney, if you want cheap, we always stay at the Sydney central youth hostel.

www.yha.com.au/hostels/details.cfm…

there are so many things to do in Sydney, I personally think the harbour bridge, the opera house, the zoo, luna park, so much more....

Hope ive helped somewhat, although Im sure there is more advice than I can suggest out there.

good luck :)

My pick is Broadbeach, quiter than Surfers but still in good position to restaurants/cafe /nightlife and surfers. Otherwise my other pick is Coolangatta, lovely seaside village with plenty of activities and gorgeous beaches.(although 30 min drive to surfers)

for accommadation in broadbeach www.lagrande.com.au

apartments across the road from the beach....plus if you do a google search apartments Broadbeach ...heaps will turn up....also go into this site and search for gold coast hotels for reviews.

There are so many hotels/apartments in the area.

Thanks everybody for your much appreciated advice, I must admit I do know about the www.wotif.com site and will scan all the acommodation for one that is situated more or less in the centre and in close proximatey to the beach, as I am myself a bit of a beach lover along with my 76 year old mother, who will really appreciate being close to everything as walking can be a bit hard on her, so the closer the better, but I was looking for recommendations really on motels/places to stay, as looking at wotif there are so many, so has anyone actually stayed on the gold coast and have you any recommendations?

Lilyana thanks for the link and yes we do want cheap accomodation but my mother would be coming as well so we were thinking along the lines of if you have or anyone else any cheap recommended motels or places to stay in sydney, again within close proximatey to everything?

oh and one with a pool would be nice or right opposite a beach, as I hopefully plan to catch some rays while I am down there.

try Coolangatta for around $120 onwards, can get at BlueCapartments, just email and ask for best rate for one bedroom apartment.4.5star apartments

Or try Calypso Plaza.4.5star apartments hotel rooms.

www.bluecapartments.com.au

not sure of Calypso web.Calypso is low rise.

Both properties opposite beachfront, and all you need around you within 1, 2, 5 min walks.local busues (yellow buses) 8 min taxi frm airport.

Blue C is high rise about 18 stories with full disabled facilities if necessary, I have MS and no prob there with me.Calypso prob same with diasbled facilities not totally sure, ask Ellemay!!

Kirra Beach try Kirrabeach apartments.all you need also. 4 star.

just next to Coolangatta is KirraBeach, with all youll need also.within 1 2 5 min walks and busues and 5 mins from airport.

Less than a week ago, we returned from a holiday at Broadbeach and stayed at a perfect location - Victoria Square Apartments. These apartments are directly opposite the entrance to the Oasis Mall, which includes a Supermarket and many other shops. There is a wonderful variety of restaurants along the Mall. The beach is less than five minutes walk from the door of the apartments and in the opposite direction, there are frequent buses travelling north and south on the Gold Coast highway. We didn't have a car either but didn't find this a problem at all. Jupiters Casino is within a short walking distance or travel on the monorail which departs frequently from the Oasis Mall.

Despite the variety of accommodation available in the area, we wouldn't look past these apartments if we returned to Broadbeach. Our apartment was on the fourteenth floor which gave us a spectacular view in all directions.

Good Luck!
