If you google Spotlight then look up their locations I'm sure you'll find some on the GC.

Alternatively, stores such as Big W and K-Mart also carry a more limited range of knitting and crochet yarns, but sometimes they have better prices especially for larger skeins. Again you would need to google these stores to find a location near to where you are staying.

Having said that, I don't know if any of these stores will carry the same range as you can find in the southern states which have colder weather in winter than the GC.

Lindcraft has better yarns than Spotlight.

Also try Gerry's on the Gold Coast www.gerrys.com.au

I would agree that Lindcraft usually has a large variety of wool and some you won't see elswhere etc - well down in the southern states - but often their prices are a lot higher than the three stores I mentioned.

Big W, K-mart and Spotlight sell some of the same well known brands and some home brands too - just depends what you're after.

For specialty yarns etc, you could try googling with keywords such as hand spun - i know you will find hand s, it spun llama wool in southern NSW, such as Crookwell and other places in the Southern Highlands and down towards Canberra. I'm sure there are quite a few places around that sell speciality wool ... but as I said it depends what you are looking for.

Another venue may be a craft show - and whether there is a craft show on or near the GC when you visit, I don't know. Try googling Stitches and Craft or Craft Shows and check the locations and dates to see if they suit.

It depends on what you are looking for.

If you want basic, solid colour acrylic yarns then KMart, and Big W are fine.

If you want wools, alpaca, angoras, mohair etc and fancy yarns then you do need to go to Lincraft. Spotlight have a reasonable range too.

And apropos of nothing in particular, although Big W and K-mart sell yarns and needles, they don't stock wool sewing needles for finishing off garments. Go figure!

I am having trouble finding double pointed knitting needles in larger sizes, ie 8mm, also find the selection of bulky wool / alpaca in Spotlight was sparse. Although we live on the Gold Coast, some of us like to knit for family in cooler parts of Australia. I also need stitch markers and stitch holders. Does anyone know of a good supplier here please.

Spotlight does online orders if you can't find anyone local.

There is a place in Penrith at the foot of the Blue Mountains that has some wonderful wools included hand painted (dyed) etc, patterns etc and all you would need. It's not a huge shop but for people after specialist wools etc it could have what you need.

It's called The Wool Inn and they are knitting and crochet specialists ... I've just had a look at their website and it's not as user friendly as they are in the shop .. but you could give them a call or send them an email.

Here's their website ... www.the-wool-inn.com.au
