what 2 do -gladstonr to hervey bay??

i am looking at spending 1 night (after 4 on heron island), on route from gladstone heading to friends near hervey bay...

any ideas? we like the country rather than towns...is there anything special to see not far off the highway?

As mentioned above.

National Park/Hiking - Cania Gorge - bit of a detour but can go inland route instead of the highway. With one night perhaps not enough time to hike which would be the main attraction. Depends if early birds. The main walk is the overhang one.

Bargara near Bundaberg, beachside town but smallish. Near Mon repos.

Childers, a town, but small, right on the highway.
