Coolangatta vs Gold Coast/Surfers

We are booked to visit the Gold Coast this March for 5 nights, just not sure whether to stay in Coolangatta or further up the coast.

Mostly looking for a beach which isnt too rough, great cafes for good coffee and brunches, shops and markets. We wont have a car so will be relying on public transport and walking. We are in our 20s just wanting to relax and have a great time away :)

Any help with where to stay or cafes etc you could recommend would be much appreciated!!

Hi,

For Surf it's much better around the border or the Sunshine Coast.

For what you have listed Surfers or Broadbeach.

Cheers,

When I was your age I would have preferred Surfer's or Broadbeach. Much more in the way of nightlife, clubs, bars and restaurants.

There's a tram from South Broadbeach to Southport that makes getting around on public transport quite easy.

Definately stay within walking distance of Surfers Paradise or Broadbeach. So much more to do right at your door step.

By a beach that isn't too rough you mean a beach without surf? Think you may be out of luck on the Gold Coast :-)

Thanks for your suggestions, I think Broadbeach sounds like it might be quite cool, close enough to the action but not right in it. Any cafes / restaurants you can recommend?

I know! just abit of a nervous swimmer, but Im sure it will be fine :)

If you want to be outside of the hustle and bustle I would stay at Coolangatta. There is plenty there and of course such an easy walk around to Kirra too.

Surfers and Boradbeach would have the better transport options but I imagine you would only use that twice?

The best beaches on the coast are at Coolangatta/ Rainbow Bay IMO. They are much more protected than those at Broadbeach and Surfers under the prevailing swell conditions. But the area is a lot quieter with fewer shops and cafes, although there is still a good choice. A good compromise might be Burleigh Heads. A fairly protected beach and lots of cute little shops and hipster cafes.

The Quicksilver and Roxy Pro is on in Coolangatta in March. It's a really fun event and something to consider depending on your travel dates.

Broadbeach is good Coolangatta is good, each to their own they both have everything. Just get yourself a 24 hour 7 Day bus pass. But if I had the choice Broadbeach. Lot of restaurants ranging from cheap too expensive a lot of the coupon deals buy one get one a lot of happy hours and cocktail hours. And you have the luxury of the tram and the casino and a great Beach

The beaches are more beautiful around Coolangatta and it is a nice town to stay in, walk around and relax.

If you want nightlife go to Surfers Paradise.
