Where to stay

I am planning a weekender for next weekend. We will watch the Shakespeare at Tempustwo, and wonder what would be a good place to stay. Money is tightish, we need some solitude, but also the option to be social without having to travel too far.

Any suggestions?

I recommend the Sebel Kirkton Park. It's close to everything but also secluded and beautiful. The rooms arent too expensive, you can get a colonial style room at the moment for around 165 a night and they are absoloutly beautiful rooms, very clean!!!

Are you kidding? Sebel is about a bzillion miles from anywheer & once you are there you are pretty much stuck there unless you want to drive!!!!!

Places withing walking of Tempus are Pokolbin Village Chateau Resort, Tallawanta, Harrigans.....

There are a few places that have lots on site while still being within walking of other venues....

Tuscany has a restaurant, tapas bar, pool, tennis courts, cellar door (Arrowfield), cheese company (Binnorie) & then you can walk to another 2 cellar doors (Keith Tulloch & Hermitage Road Cellars) as well as Bluetongue Brewery.

When we stayed we paid full price but if we had waited a couple of weeks we could have bagged a bargain on their website or through some of those last minute web sites.

Also handy is Hunter Resort, Duck Hollow & if you call the visitor info centre they have a list of last minute accommodation. 02 4990 0900.

If you are on a very tight budget, there is accomodation behind the visitor's centre which is clean and low cost and includes breakfast.

Otherwise, the Pokolbin Hill Chateau would be perfect for you - very close to Tempus Two. Harrigan's is also close by. I guess it depends on whether you will have your own transportation or not. If you don't you'll probably want to be close to Broke rd near McDonald rd.
