Te Anau to Milford for 9am departure?

Hi. We'll be staying overnight in Te Anau and are thinking about trying to catch either the earliest Mitre Peak Cruise boat which leaves at at 9am or the latest one, which leaves at 4:30pm. Either option will give us time to do a short hike mid-day. BUT we don't want to depart or return in the dark. Haven't figured out how to find day length information for that area. What can we expect in early November? Thanks!

At that time of year it will be quite light quite late in Te Anau, and the sun will get up early. Te Anau is not a big place so it will not take long even walking to get to the boat.

Hello R, welcome to the forum :)

sunrise is approx 6am, sunset approx 9:30pm, with a half hour of light before and dusk after.

You should allow 2.5 hours to drive Te Anau to Milford if you don't stop. That also allows 10 minutes to walk to the wharf plus 20 minutes check in time.

The walk up to Key Summit is one of the most popular walks. Please note that the weather can be very changeable very quickly, so even on a glorious cloudless day, take warm clothing, extra food and water.

have a great visit :)
