5 nights in Queenstown without car - help with Itinerary

late July will be in Queenstown for 5 nights - hope to find accommodation in Town so hoping will not need to hire a car.

so after suggestions on things to do while there. (ages vary from 45 to 65)

would like to spend at least 1 day on the mountain eg Remarkables to go tubing & chairlift - not sure about skiing yet ? )

But what else to do - ideas on how to fill our days ??

I had 5 nights in Queenstown without a car a couple of years ago. We had three days on the mountains (there are buses), a day on a coach tour to Milford Sound, and a day bumming around doing fun things like the luge and drinking mulled wine.

Other things you could do is catch a bus out to Wanaka for the day (although it may be cheaper to hire a car), visit Arrowtown for lunch, go on wine tours, go out to Glenorchy. There's loads of stuff you can do, you won't get bored.

Thank You so much - sounds like a great plan - have only heard wonderful things about the great food & wine in the south island.

We had 4 nights w/o a car in Queenstown in March 2012. Went on bus trips to both Milford and Doubtful Sounds (we liked Milford and the power station tour the better of the 2 but do not regret doing both). We also took a tour with Queenstown Heritage Tours that combined Skippers Canyon and Winetasting/lunch. Would do that one again! Up top of the mountain on the cablecar there are hikes and even a luge. Not sure which of all this is on in winter, but you will have a great stay I am sure!

There is also the TSS Earnslaw cruise on the lake to Walter Peak Station (a working sheep farm).

My favourite is the Dart River Safari. I never tire of this amazing trip to Glenorchy and through Mt Aspiring National park by jet boat on the river and a short walk and educational tour through the beech forest.

You will find plenty to do without a car.
