We three, daughter, granddaughter (teen) and I, arrived in Wellington by bus on Easter Sunday, coming from Turangi. We had eaten lunch at a pleasant bus stop/restaurant with a petting zoo along the way. We took a cab from the bus/train station which was the end of our Intercity bus rides to the Novotel Wellington Hotel at The Terrace. We had a pleasant, comfortable room with good beds. There were lots of people in the lobby area. The food was, like most of New Zealand, pricey, but good.
The next morning we were picked up from our hotel for the Middle Earth Tour of Film Locations-Extended Tour. Our main focus for the trip to NZ was a Lord of the Rings film tour as a High School graduation present for my granddaughter. Our guide, Laura, was excellent. She was knowledgeable, up to date with her information and fun. We visited many LOTR filming sites as well as the Window to the World of WETA and a lovely waterside restaurant where the film stars were said to have eaten. We saw much of the Wellington area because of the tour. There are many more things we would have liked to see, but, we'll have to save that for next time. Next day we flew to Queenstown. We took a taxi to the airport and were charmed by the Gollum exhibit that we learned of on this site from weta. We flew on Air New Zealand with tickets we had purchased online from Grab A Seat, again recommended on this site.
