Where to stay over xmas?

Am staying for 3 nights from 24-27 December: self contained for two adults (two bedrooms)

Have narrowed it down to:

- Boulcott Suites (but cannot offer parking)

- Du Pont Luxury Apartments (Petone so no dramas with parkin, but can't see any reviews anywhere)

- Lambton Court Serviced Apartments

Plan is to spend 1 day in Wellington and the rest going to Cape Palliser and Kapiti Coast.

Hi

One thing to note is parking will be free and unlimited on the city streets on 25th and 26th outside both the city locations. You could park the car in a public car parking building on the 24th for $10 a day or less depending on when you put it in. There are lots around but just check you can get your car out ok on xmas day! If you want to self cater remember to shop on 24th for some food in case the supermarkets have limited or no opening on xmas day.

That is a very quiet time in the city, a lot of Wellington people go away.

Petone is closer to Cape Palliser, but only by a half hour max closer - for a journey onto the motorway from the central city (if you stayed there).. out to Petone (which you will go past on the way to Palliser. It is great scenary and nice drive. Rough in bad weather. You should see seals. There are no shops there, one tearooms I heard - bound to be closed on xmas day. Eat in the Wairarapa on the way. At least 2 hour drive from Wellington.

To trip to Kapiti, again it's not too much difference from either city or Petone... There are 3 routes from your two possible locations...

1. Drive from city up North via Ngauranga Gorge out to Porirua then Kapiti... or 2. Drive from Petone back to the gorge (towards Wellington) and do the same route up the gorge or else 3. Drive north from Petone up the Hutt Valley and cross over to the other coast at what is called Haywards Hill. I don't think any is much time difference to the other so take your pick.

So if you think you may want to wander around the city centre then I'd choose there. City shops will be all practically closed xmas day. Petrol stations and some fast food will be open. Hotel restaurants will be open if you get stuck for food!

Petone has quieter feel, some nice shops on only one shopping street.

Hope some of this helps!
