For a different idea of how to spend the day in the Wellington city off the boat, you may like to do what's called the Seal Safari, and then have a nice late lunch with NZ wine at one of our restaurants.
Seal Sarafi Info is here: www.totaltravel.co.nz/link.asp?fid=570938
You could take the 10.30am - you get back at 1.30... and go to a nice restaurant for a late lunch?
You may need to check which ones still serve at 1.30.
If you're not into a 4 wheel drive trip to the beautiful rugged South Coast - (so close to town) then how about the Karori Wildlife Bird Sanctuary - also very close to town (a short taxi ride) and you can do some short walks in the native bush and see native birds. www.sanctuary.org.nz
LUNCH (or equally dinner!)
If you have a good $$ lunch budget and want some fine wines recommended then maybe try:
A little more medium priced few that also specialise in fine wines are:
*Arbitrageur on Featherston Steeet - www.arbitrageur.co.nz/
Or - if later on in the afternoon you wish to go to some wine bars having a nice walk around the compact city - you could try
*Arbitrageur as above,
*The Matterhorn in Cuba Mall, Cuba Street which has some some international 'best bar' awards.
*Vivo, in Edward Street, hidden around in an alley - http://www.vivowinebar.com/
have fun whatever you do!
