Clearest time of year to see Mt Taranaki with snow

Hi there

I'm planning a hike to Holly Hut sometime this year. I want to photograph Mt Taranaki with snow on a clear day. I understand that I'll need to be lucky - however can a local advise what time of year is most likely to give me a clear day and for Mt Taranaki to be snow capped?

Last time I was in the area it was overcast for days and that was April - there was no snow then too.

Thanks

In lieu of any local comments, there is no way that anyone can guarantee what thr weather will be like.

Such are the joys of photography and travel.

Hi,

Global Warming notwithstanding. You would be most unlucky to visit in August or September and not have the mountain snow capped. Will it be clear?

Cheers,

I would advise visit in September and stay in Taranaki for a week. Over the course of a week you are very likely to get at least one really good day.

She's a beautiful, yet temperamental sod the mountain. I spent a week at the base (about a mile from the Reserve) in August one year and she only showed herself from behind the cloud once! But it was a stunning sight when it was clear.

Thanks Weta,

I'll blame it on the rellies who live at the base with whom I was staying. They always refer to it as 'she' or 'the mountain'. The actual name is hardly ever used.

Still stunning when visible though.

So I must have been lucky in my June 2010 visit,

Driving up from Wellington there was a lump of cloud over the Mountain, But once I got alongside it blew away and revealed Taranaki at it finest.

Next day we could see it from about 50km up the coast.

Thanks for your replies, however Jeff K, I didn't ask if it can be guaranteed. It's not like I'm a travel or photography novice here. Often there are better and worse times of the year to shoot - hence some local knowledge is useful. I've been photographing mountains for decades and have most major NZ peaks in my portfolio - bar one! Obviously it needs to be the later 6 months of the year to be snowy, but I've had great clear snowy shots of Ruapehu in December and Ngauruhoe in August.
