New year's eve in Rotorua

Hi, we are a couple and a 10 year old daughter, and will be spending New Years´s eve in Rotorua. Any recommendations on where we should go for that particular evening (dinner or celebrations)? Are there any special events in Wai-o-tapu or Tamaki Maori Villages planned for that celebration? Will it be possible to get some Maori (Hangi, or other) Dinner to celebrate 2013? Or we should stick to our motel room for that night?

Thanks so much if anybody can help us pick something! cheers!

No, certainly don't stay in your motel room. There is a lot happening in Rotorua. www.rotoruaglofestival.co.nz . Also look at www.mitai.co.nz . I am sure Mitai, Tamaki & Te Po will all have hangi dinners and entertainment with transfers from accommodation. The next day you could start the New Year by an activity such as luging at Skyline, visiting the Nature and Lion Park at Paradise Valley (pet a lion cub for your 10 year old). Your motelier will provide you with any information you require.

Thank you very much for your suggestions, Val Gee. We´ll look them up and certainly enjoy them. As for the 4 days we will be in Rotorua for, we are planning to visit Skyline Skyrides (and maybe Zorg as well), like you suggested, and Wai-O-Tapu (for shure), Te Puia OR Whakarewarewa Thermal village (can you help us pick which?), and maybe the Buried Village or do a walk in the Redwood Forrest. Is that too much? Thanks again and Happy New Year´s Eve to us all in Rotorua!
