How many nights?

Just booked flights to Auckland.

How many nights/ full days should we have in Auckland and Wellington?

We are planning to drive between them staying at Napier, Taupo, Rotarua, Thames and the Bay of Islands

Any suggestions would be great

1. Re: How many nights?

It depends entirely on how long you have for your whole trip, and what kind of things you like doing.

If you can let us know how long you have in total, and what sort of activities you are into, then I can give you a better answer.

Also, if you are including Bay of Islands/Northland in your trip (which you definitely should), then you will be passing through Auckland again on your way back down, so that might possibly affect your decisioon on how long you stay when you first arrive.

Arriving v.late on the first night in Auckland then not sure if we should have 2 or 3 full days but will be having the last night in Auckland to break the journey from the Bay of Islands and the flight to Singapore.

Should we have 3 nights in Wellington

Lucy, you should have as least nights as possible in the cities, there is far more for you to see elsewhere. Are you visiting Wellington for a reason, as all your other areas are in the top half of the Nth Island? It's a long way to travel from Napier to Wellington for a night or two with not much bewteen the two other than farmland and small country towns. You would be better to use these nights elsewhere-Tutukaka, Coromandel, Mt Maunganui, Whakatane, Waitomo, Gisborne amongst others, any of these would be well worth a night or two. Also a bit more relaxed travel.

We fly into Auckland from The Uk then thought we would stay for 3 nights then fly to Wellington 2 nights then pick up a car driving to Napier 3 nights, Taupo 2 nights Rotorua 2 nights Comorandel Area 3 nights Bay of Islands 4 nights then back to Auckland 1 night - to break the trip back.

Maybe we should drop the Wellington bit - but it looks a nice city!

Lucy,

Why Thames, if you don't mind me asking?

If you're staying there because you cannot find accomodation in the Coromandel, then I understand.

Otherwise...honestly, there is nothing to see.

Coromadel Area - Thames or somewhere in that area - Tairu looks nice and also found a nice B&B - Harbour View

Where would you suggest in that area?

Just my humble opinion, but you should be on the other side of the ranges- try & get a spot at Hot Water Beach, Cathedral Cove, Whitianga, Pauanui.....the Pacific Ocean side is many, many times nicer than the Firth of Thames.

Tairua's a hell of a lot better than Thames, anyway!!!

Have you seen this? http://www.tairua.info/

The other thing with Tairua is the access to the Cathedral Cove's, Hot Water Beach, etc, is far easier than from Thames.
