Auckland - worth visiting?

In view of the situation in Fiji we're considering Auckland as a stopover instead. We shall be there at the beginning of April. Is it a good place to visit and what will the weather be like? It will be part of a round world ticket from London. We would already have visited Shanghai, Singapore, Bangkok, Perth and Sydney. Thanks

I love Auckland and it is certainly worth visiting however, I would not miss out on a trip toFiji if it arose. We have just returned from Fiji and would not have kown a coup was happening except the resorts were fairly empty. Easy to get deck chairs and the sun was still shining. We did not see a soldier. Even if we had they would have smiled and said "Bula". We booked after the coup happened when everyone was cancelling. There are some good deals there.

If you do end up in Auckland, Ponsonby is th place to be.
