Regarding transport - it is very easy to get around using buses in the main part of the city + ferry services to Devonport, Waiheke etc- so yes its easy to get around without a car.

You would only need a car if you were planning on visiting any of the surrounding areas such as the Waitakeres, Piha and west coast beaches, Matakana etc

In the city, I always suggest you are best staying in the lower end of the CBD, reasonably close to the waterfront. Don't know your budget for accommodation, but AUCKLAND HARBOUR OAKS, CELESTION WALDORF, QUEST ON QUEEN are a few places that are well priced and in good locations, but there are many accommodation options available at all budgets

You are best to just book ferry trips etc once you get here, then you can plan your days based on the weather and so on.

Generally, it is very easy and better to book trips once you are here. Esp. for any boat trips you will want to assess the weather forecast a day or 2 before to decide when is the best day to go.

For 'caves', were you meaning Waitomo Caves ?? - if so, this is a very full day trip, but again can easily be booked once here.

If you stay around the area I suggested, the Princes Wharf & Sky City I-sites are both very close by, and can give you lots of advice and arrange any bookings for you.

There are not that many 'B&B' style properties in central Auckland.

The only one that I know of in the central city is Braemer on Parliament.

You could also consider staying in Ponsonby and utilising local buses to get to and from the central city.

You could also consider Hotel de Brett which is a boutique hotel with more of a classy B&B style, this is right in the heart of the city

Also, just be aware, that some tours/activities have minimum number to operate. If you leave bookings till the last minute you may be disappointed should this be so.

Hi there, pretty easy to get around without a car as long as you're in the CBD. As long as you're close to the Inner our Outer Link bus routes you can get to the main areas of interest. maxx.co.nz/media/65451/link_4_panel_dl_flyer…

And this site is really good as they have specials for Auckland activities:

If you could take the time to go to Waiheke Island for a day and a night, it's well worth the visit.

Easy to take a ferry over from the CBD and the Grab One website recently had a wine tour on for $49 for a half day tour with this company. http://www.aroundwaiheketours.co.nz/

Enjoy!
