Distance from central business hotels to cruise terminal?

My husband and I will be arriving in Auckland 1.5 days prior to our cruise in December. Is the CBD the best area to stay for sightseeing, how long would it take to get to the cruise terminal and do you know of any hotels that provide transportation. Any suggestions for a reasonable priced hotel in the area? What would the cost be for a taxi to the terminal? Thanks for any suggestions.

The cruise terminal is downtown and so many hotels are extremely close. Some just across the road. The hilton I believe is on same wharf. We stayed downtown and it was just a brief walk across the road to the cruise terminal. So convenient. However, it depends on your budget as to what would suit you.

There are 2 wharfs where the boats dock; Princes Wharf (on the same wharf as the Hilton), and Queens Wharf about a 5 minute walk from Princes. Queen Street is the "main" street of Auckland CBD, quite a long street, the lower part flat and the upper part rises a little. The lower part would be suitable if you wanted sea views, heaps of restaurants and close to ferry terminal. A trip to Devonport or Waiheke Island (via ferry) are popular, but if you had a full day and desired to get out of the city to enjoy the countryside, you will find lots of "real" experiences all in the one day; (Rainforest, craftmarket, wineries, farmland, black sand beach, and the world-famous gannet colony at Muriwai). Good on you for arriving a day prior to your cruise to see Auckland!

Some of the reasonably priced hotels close to the cruise terminals include Copthorne Harbour, Mercure, Stamford Plaza and de Bretts with the nearest being Copthorne Harbourcity for Princess wharf (across the road) and Mercure for Queens wharf (approx. 100 metres away). These options are in great location to the harbour ferries, the Hop on/off bus circuit, and other sightseeing options. Viaduct harbour for a range of dining places is a short walk away as well.

Thanks for the info, Hilton is out of our budget but sounds nice as so close to port. Will have to check to see which port..going on Celebrity.

Do you happen to know how far airport is to CBD?

Very helpful info, I need to determine if we are leaving from Queen or Prince Port but suggestions for things to see very helpful. Our cruiseline is Celebrity.

We like to arrive a day or so earlier to allow for any trip interruptions and also to see the port city. Thanks again.

It's not really the distance to airport, rather than the time it's going to take you to get there, because Auckland has traffic problems at peak hours! Depending on what time of day, allow anywhere from 45 minutes to 75 minutes. Reporting time for US is 3 hours before departure (unless 1st class!), to Australia it's 2 hours.

What some folk also do is combine embarkation from cruise boat, tour (accompanied with luggage) and transfer to airport after the tour. There are some operators which would carry your luggage on the tour which saves you needing to go back into the city at the end of the day, and you get an extra day touring; (maybe more Private tours). Alternatively, there is [limited] luggage storage at the downtown i-Site (Princes Wharf corner).

Allow about an hour to get into the city. There are shuttle buses which go downtown, or you can get a taxi, which is more convenient ifyou have luggage. I strongly recommend the Copthorne for a medium budget - an older hotel, once the best in AKL, but still in a great location. You can sometimes get $99 deals, including breakfast on Wotif.co.nz.

Airport is about 18km. It will take 30minutes in no traffic. Checkout the airporter bus which will take you to many hotels and will be the cheapest option.
