1.5 - 2 hours

the last few k's to actual park is unsealed and windy which will slow you down!

very worth visiting though.

auckland has more gorgeous beaches than you can poke a stick at!

if you are driving then north east coast but maybe not as far as tawharanui.

(some favourites are wenderholm/orewa and closer to city, takapuna).

if you rely on public transport or even taxis, head for mission bay/pt chevalier/cheltenham.

or take a ferry trip to waiheke, time permitting.

west coast you need your own transport, the closest west coast beach is around 30k's from city.
