Departure Tax

Could someone advise me on departure tax.

We arrive in Auckland at 11.59pm and are going to a hotel for a nap as we leave at 7.00am next day for Tonga.

Are we still classed as in transit and how do we handle it?

Thanks.

1. Re: Departure Tax

If you are transiting Auckland airport within 24 hours no departure tax is payable.

I would however ask the Customs Officer at Immigration what if any procedures are required to ensure a smooth exit.

Keep copies of your tickets/ boarding passes of your incoming flights to prove you have been in country less than 24 hours in case you run into an officious official.

you can just go to any TravelEx kiosk and get your exemption sticker. you will need to show your boarding pass to prove you were there for less than 24 hours.
