cell phones in NZ

My husband is wondering about buying an inexpensive cell phone in NZ to use just while we are there to set up hotel/restaurant reservations, check prices/info/weather, etc. Anyone have any suggestions, tip or advice on such a thing?

Hi .....A reply to "OLDEY" re: Canadian Cell phones ..... our phone company told us that our cells would not work in NZ due to a difference in bandwidth ......?? I would advise to check this out .The rental was very reasonable ...

British phones have the same frequency 900/1800 as NZ Vodafone, if the Canadian phone uses the common North American 850/1900 frequency then it will not work unless it is quad band - triband may not work.

UK charger will work with an adapter, avoid buying this at Heathrow as it can be bought for a pittance outside the airport or in New Zealand.
