advice please on 2 night stay

We will be arriving in the afternoon of October 6th from Melbourne. We plan to stay 2 nights with our full day spent on Waiheke island. Following our stay we will be driving to Rotorua. Can you recommend best way to get to the city. Should we rent a car from airport and drive in or is it better to take public transport and rent a car in the city when we leave? We do have an option for a B&B with free parking. Any other suggestions for our brief stay? Thanks

You don't need the car for the city or Waiheke Island. Save 2 days rental and parking and pick up the car in the city to head to Rotorua.

For the Waiheke ferry, you would need to park in the downtown car-park, or take an Uber or taxi from your B&B unless it is right beside the Ferry Building. No savings to be made if so.

I would also be inclined to collect a rental car when you plan to drive to Rotorua, and use the super shuttle, or a taxi/Uber from the airport to your accommodation.

Where is your B&B located? If it's in Ponsonby, or Parnell there are good options for dining in these inner city suburbs. Same with Takapuna on the North Shore.

Thank you for your responses. We have decided to wait on the car and take the super shuttle into our hotel down near the ferry. This looks to be the most convenient and economical option. Cheers!
