How many days would you have for seeing all those areas ??

It makes more sense to plan a 'loop' route, staying in 2 or 3 different places -

eg.

1 or 2 days in Paihia/Russell

2 days in Doubtless Bay (as this is the best starting point for a day trip to Cape Reinga

1 or 2 days in Omapere/Opononi or possibly further south on the West Coast at Baylys Beach...

If you can let us know how many nights you would have, I can suggest a good route and possibly some specific places to stay (let us know your budget too)

we have 3 days from AKL I like your suggestion of Paihai/doubtless bay

didnt think about staying overnight in Omapere for Waipoui Forest..but could do that. $150nt is max we would like to spend..does it matter if you are on the waterfront in Paihai? and is coopers beach the place to stay in DB?

thanks in advance for your helpful hints

So with 3 nights, leave Auckland in the morning and travel to Paihia; I would stay 1st night in Paihia or possibly Kerikeri, use your 1st afternoon and a little of the following morning exploring Bay of islands; then head to Cape Reinga starting maybe at 11am, using the whole of the rest of this day to see the area around Cape Reinga/ 90 mile beach Houhora, and then head south to end up in Doubtless Bay for the night (Hihi,Mangonui, Coopers Beach, Cable Bay, Taipa are all good locations, all within 10-15 minutes drive of each other).

Spend the next morning exploring the beaches around this area (+ possibly a detour up onto the Karikari peninsula) and then travel via KohuKohu and the vehicle ferry to the Hokianga, drive through the Waipoua Forest and end up in Baylys Beach for the night.

Next day back to Auckland.

Its a big trip in 3 days, but do-able.

NZ$150 is a reasonable budget per night......

thinking of staying in the township, then to Hahei and Mt Manauguani then to Roturua 1 night each except Rot- 2 nights is it necessary for 2 nghts in Coro.?

or 2 nts in Hahei? I hear Nov weather can be iffy? but want to see the coast as much as posisble.. Thanks in advance for your opinion
