Drive from Joondalup to Monkey Mia?

How long is the drive from Joondalup to Monkey Mia, I've had mixed results from other site's, some say between, 8-10hrs!!!???

What is the speed limit on the main highways or what speed is accepted???

Many Thanks

Hi, just saw your posting on the Maldives forum and followed you across. We drove from Monkey Mia to perth in one day and it does take about 8 to 10 hours. Try to avoid driving at night in remote areas as this allows you to see any wildlife it time to avoid hitting them. Hitting a kangaroo will pretty much destroy your car and a tow truck can take hours to get to you. We saw plenty of people speeding but also saw a few people getting pulled over by police so if you do speed, be prepared to pay a fine. We stayed in Geraldton on our way to monkey Mia to break up our trip in hindsight would have gone to Kalbarri instead.

replied to your post on the Maldives forum, but if you want to move it over to here, will keep the TA police happy!!!

To Mark, and further on gengy's comments. Driving at sun up and sun set is also a little fraught with "danger" . it's when the roos like to feed and often the best feed is on the road verges where what little rainfall we might get lies, and causes green feed to grow.

Re speed, our maximum speed is 110 kms, I think that's about 65 miles per hour. With fuel prices the way they are here, at present $ 1.40 per litre ( you can do the conversions, maths is not my forte )and it is much dearer in remote places <(Monkey Mia ) you would be advised to travel 95=100 kph - it does save fuel. Also , perhaps you are not used to driving long distances, at speed, on long, monotonously straight stretches of road that can " mesmerise " you, so extra care needs to be taken and "pit stops " to eat, drink and walk around are advised at least every two hours. It might sound daunting but it is very safe if you follow a few simple rules. It is wise to carry plenty of water, too, especially if you will be doing the trip between October and April. It might seem lika a lot of advice for a 10 hour trip, but it is all good advice. lennyb
