You haven't given your age or the area you're staying in and if you will have private transport. Fremantle is about 30 minutes south of Perth, on the coast. There are many interesting shops, pubs, markets and activities there. You can go to Rottnest Island by ferry from Fremantle too. There is also the old Fremantle Prison which holds tours.

The Swan Valley and the Darling Range are beautiful regions just 30 or so minutes north-east. There are wineries, parks and restaurants. There is Whiteman Park which is quite popular. The website is: http://www.whitemanpark.com.au/index.asp

For lifestyle...hmm. I think one thing that shows lifestyle here is the "Sunday Session" at a popular hotel. This can start as a laid-back lunch in a beer garden and continue on into the evening. A visit to the beaches is a must even though the weather is quite cool in May.

Perth is a lot of eating out (especially alfresco), socialising, family activities, sport, the river, beaches, fishing and boats. A lot of drinking good Australian wines and beer...and in winter we hibernate to friends' houses for dinner parties and get-togethers.

I forgot to say you can't miss King's Park in the City. The views from there are stunning.

You will also be here for the football season, so you can go to Subiaco Oval and watch a game with the Eagles or the Dockers. That's a good Australian experience.
