Getting to -BEST WESTERN PLUS Ascot Apartments

What would be the easiest/cheapest way to get to these apartments from the international terminal? Would it be better to get a shuttle to the domestic terminal first and then a taxi to the apartment (not sure if the shuttle is free?) The domestic terminal does look closer to the apartments. Or just get a taxi from the international terminal? any idea of cost?

Many thanks T23

Hi,

We have stayed at these apartments numerous times imo I would just grab a taxi with your luggage its the easiest way to get there. It's approx 13mins taxi drive (10km from Perth International Airport ).

Thanks for your reply. I will be staying at these apartments longer than the usual traveller as I am meeting hubby out there on business.

Do you know what is within walking distance of these apartments? I can see there are a few restaurants, what about supermarkets? also is it safe for a woman to walk around on her own here?

I did live in Aus for a while but not familiar with this area.

Many thanks

There really isn't much in walking distance of these apartments. If you enter the address on

www.whereis.com

which is the mapping service driven by Telstra you will see there are only two restaurants, a McDonalds (questionable whether that really fits the criteria for "restaurant") and a Chinese restaurant. Nearest supermarkets about 2.3km away. I don't see that it would be unsafe to walk around there but there's not much point, if you see what I mean. There are bus stops in either direction nearby if you wish to use public transport or you could hire a car (which would be my pick). I would not recommend using public transport at night.

Thanks YorkFoodie

I like to walk and need to find things to keep me busy as I will be on my own during the day, 2.3km is not too far for me (but maybe in such high tempretures!). I have already had a little walk around on Google Earth and I did notice the bus stops. I was just looking for options during the day as hubby is on business(the reason for picking Best Western). And I am spending almost two weeks there! Although I will be OK for weekends and evenings. Guess we will be eating a lot of Chinese! And burgers :(

Hi Turquoise,

The hotel has no restaurant so as mentioned by YFooodie you need to either eat across the road at the local Chinese or McDonalds (24hrs) is just on the next corner a 2 min walk away. The hotel does offer a restaurant charge-back to your room system with a gourmet delivery service. If you have a car you do also have other restaurants options available within the area like the Burswood Casino and Mt Lawley.

There is a supermarket within walking distance ( 15min) up Epsom Rd which stocks everything including an excellent grog shop. There is also another closer bottle shop one block down on the Great Eastern Highway.

Your other option is to catch a bus / taxi into Perth city for a day to explore & do some of the tours available. This will keep you busy... see link below for additional info.

A 15 minute walk in 40C heat carrying groceries is going to feel like the Sandakan death march. For groceries I'd take the bus into the city and shop at one of the Woolworths stores there then come back on the bus.

Hi Turquoise

While there is not much within walking distance of the Ascot Apartments themselves, there are a few lovely places not too far away if you grab a bus or a taxi.

If you have a look at the place on Google Maps, you will notice that almost directly across the river is a place called Riverside Gardens. Half of it is a bird sanctuary and the other half is a beautiful park with barbecues, tables and public toilets. This half is also an off-leash dog park.

Perth city is an easy trip on the bus from Ascot, and I would recommend heading into the city and wandering during the week days. There are lots of air conditioned shops and plenty of food options. Other options not too far away are Burswood (casino and some lovely eateries), East Perth (beautiful, leafy quiet area with some gorgeous waterside eating and drinking options) and Maylands/ Mount Lawley for trendy cafes and small bars.

If you hop on a bus to Bayswater or Maylands train station you can then get easily into the city or to Guildford (antiques shops and cute cafes) by train.

Thank you all. This is all helpful info. I think our best bet is to hire a car for the weekend we arrive and stock up on supplies.

Good to know about the transports links to the city, also supermarket and bottle shop within easy reach.Hopefully I won't get lost!

Thanks again for all the advice. I am looking forward to my visit.

With a car I'd recommend shopping at Belmont Forum which is nearby and has a good selection of supermarkets, butchers, greengrocers, bakers and the like. Unless opening hours have changed lately they are only open on Saturday until 5pm, closed Sunday.

If you want a good butcher with an excellent range of European style smallgoods try Dubrovnik's on Railway Parade. Pretty sure they shut at noon on Saturday though and not open Sunday at all.
