Fruits Farms or Nuts Farm?

I got to know about MacNuts ( http://www.macnutswa.com.au ) thru this forum. I have also researched and checked out the "Pick-Your-Own Fruits" website ( www.pickyourown.org/australiawestern.htm ).

1) Does anyone else know of any fruits farms where you can visit that is not listed?

2) MacNuts seems to be only growing macadamia nuts. Are other any other type for nuts farm? I would like to see cashew nut tree?

;-)

cashews are a tropical fruit so wont see them around perth. in any case the cashew industry is very small in aus. northern territory and north queensland have some experimental plantations.

MacNuts WA is just mac nuts. It's a mildly interesting stop, but only if you're already nearby, not really worth going out of your way for. It's basically a shop selling mac nuts with some equipment on display and a bit of info about how the nuts are taken from the shell, etc. As far as I know, they don't offer tours or anything. It takes about 10-15 minutes to see the whole place.

I've been there twice, the first time because I was amazed to learn that mac nuts could grow in WA (I'd assumed it was too dry) and once to buy mac nuts, as they have some flavors I can't find elsewhere.

There's a place in the Perth Hills...I once bought pecans from them, but I'm not sure if they grow them right there or not. You could send them a note to ask. They also have a cafe and accommodation.

There's a place in Wannaroo called Strawberry Fields where you can pick your own berries, but only in season of course, and you'll need to call first. I called once and was told they're not always open to the public, it varies day to day, based on how many berries are ready, etc.

Are you interested in the Perth area specifically, or will you be going down south?

I went to a Berry Farm in Denmark down in the Great Southern region of WA where you were let loose to help yourself to many different types and varieties of berries. This was in the summer months and I had a great time. There is also Eden's Gate Blueberry farm out on the peninsular there.

Pecan Hill is in Toodyay, a little over an hour's drive from Perth. From their website the cafe is closed but they have pecan products for sale there. I believe they do have their own pecan trees but I doubt you could pick from them even if the nuts were in season. Insurance issues mean very few tree fruit farms allow pick your own, I'd be surprised if any did.

Eden's Gate is open December to the end of April. Here's a link:

There's an apple farm in Donnybrook which also has a cidery but there's not much to see, especially as apples aren't even vaguely ready yet.

There's also a big berry farm near Margaret River but again I don't think they do tours of the actual trees or allow pick your own. They do have a nice cafe and you can buy farm products and wines:
