Driving Melbourne to Adelaide

Taking a trip with a teenager (16) and child (8) in December. Thinking of driving from Melbourne to Adelaide via Great Ocean Road (return trip). We don't have many days to spare 9 in total. How quick is the journey from Melbourne to Adelaide? What are the MUST see or MUST do along the way? Any good recommendations for accommodation that is kids friendly? Thanks!

Warrnambool would be a good spot to stay overnight. There is a lot there for the kids.

You can easily drive from Melbourne to Warrnmabool via the GOR in one day stopping off at a few different places along the way.

We made this trip in the opposite direction a number of years ago. Our first night was spent in Naracoorte (sightseeing at the caves); our 2nd night was in Warnambool (lots to do with kids there) and our final night was in Apollo Bay. No section of driving was more than 3.5 hours which gave us plenty of time for sightseeing in each destination and along the way.

If you stay in Warnambool, make sure you get to the light show (nighttime) at Flagstaff Hill. http://www.flagstaffhill.com/
