Robinsons in the City or Fountain Terrace B&B (during...

We are going to be in Melbourne for two nights in March(first time), unfortunately its during the Commonwealth games and all hotels are booked. We prefer B&B's anyway, and are trying to decide between Robinson's in the City and Fountain Terrace in St. Kilda. It seems that Robinson's would be more central to Melbourne sights but might be more in the crowded frenzy of the games...while Fountain Terrace might be a little further away from the crowds. Would appreciate your recommendations.

Cannot comment on either but you understand that distance wise your only talking about 4 or 5 klms so getting from St Kilda into the city or the city out to St Kilda isn't going to be a big hassle? St Kilda can also get very busy on summer weekends (if thats when your here) as well depending on your location.

I would definitely say the city location although I don't know either of the accom venues. On location alone you can do much more from a city base and StKilda will be just as noisy and crowded as Melbourne, it always is. StKilda is famous for a nice beach, good restaurants, live music and is a partial red light district, so a bit of everything down there. It is only 15mins by tram to get there if you want to base in the city and go out for the day or night down there. Melbourne is big enough to absorb the Games crowds, so don't worry about being in town, there is plenty of room.

I would HAVE to say stay at Fountain Terrace, we had such a fantastic stay there (5 days)in November. The hotel is in a very quiet tree lined street but close to all the restaurants. Penny and Hekki are so friendly and welcoming, AND the breakfasts are great. We went in to the city every day on the trams it took no time and was sooo easy.

Hope this helps!
