Hi,

Better you than me. You will need a holiday to recover.

What is happening between 19/12 and Christmas Day ?

Really IMHO you could drop Sydney and spend more time on the GOR, Grampians, Sovereign Hill etc.

Cheers,

The GOR is poorly spaced as per your itinerary hinting that you have not gained an understanding of what it involves, and btw partying is terrible preparation. Melbourne overall is poorly spaced, though I suppose you are trying to work around things like cheaper flights if you arrive and depart via the same location and fitting in a sporting event. I don't understand your friends' comings and goings, and why you've allocated one day in the middle for sleep. I am wondering if Sydney is somewhere between 19 and 25? I agree with OZ that you will need a holiday to recover. I do not agree with OZ's suggested amendments though, I think for 5 sporty partying friends it makes more sense to drop the GOR and so on and spend more time in Sydney and the Gold Coast. I can only base my advice on what you have told us but IMO that sounds best for you. Please clarify your query and add any further information which will help us understand your requirements better. You need more advice to help you improve your itinerary.

That's at an absolute frantic pace at what is a really busy time in the state. Melbourne to Port Campbell is far too much in one day and will take at least 5 and probably closer to 6 hours non stop driving when you consider the delays caused by road works on the route between Lorne and Apollo Bay.

Look at driving only as far as Apollo Bay and spending the night there and then continue onto the Port Campbell national park the next day and return to Melbourne via the Princes Highway and even then you are looking at a loop from Melbourne at around 550 - 600k.

<<Day 2(17 dec) : local sight seeing + party at night>> not a good idea to be partying the night before doing any road trip let alone a trip along the GOR. The state has one of the countries strictest drink driving laws If you are consuming booze at the party that can linger in your system long after you have finished the party and the GOR needs total concentration and is not a route to be driven when tired or suffering the effects of a party the night before.

This link has comprehensive info about the GOR www.visitgreatoceanroad.org.au

Safe travels.

Hi,

Thank you for your reply.

Here is the info for the missing Dates :

19 Dec : Melbourne to Gold Coast Flight @ 6 PM

20 Dec : Australia Zoo (I know it is far but we do not mind travelling)

21 Dec : Movie World

22 Dec : Beach + Glow Worm Cave

23 Dec : Sea World + Gold Coast to Sydney Flight @ 6:30 PM

24 Dec : Sydney Opera House + local sight seeing

25 Dec : Bondi Beach

26 Dec : Sydney to Melbourne Flight @ 6:30 PM

My friends are going to Cairns on 26th Dec to do scuba and 2 of them are coming back to Melbourne on 29th Morning. So I'll be alone on 27th and 28th in melbourne.

1st Jan is a holiday. So we will get 1 day to recover after we get back.

To cut down our flight costs, we have booked our flight tickets from Melbourne only. So we start the trip from Melbourne and end with Melbourne.

Have you booked accommodation for your trip? If you haven't that needs to be organised ASAP.

I understand that 1.5 days is a bit less for GOR.

Since we will be doing a road trip on GOR, we decided to keep a gap of 1 day after we arrive in Melbourne.

We are arriving on 16th Dec night / 17th Dec early morning (all of us are coming from different cities).

Hence we thought that it will be better to start the road trip from 18th Dec.

I understand your point.

We will skip the party 1 day before the road trip.

I ran out of editing time please be aware that to drive from Port Campbell to Melbourne airport via the Princes Highway (the quickest route) will take at least 3 - 4 hours depending on traffic and stops. I would want to be leaving PC no later than 12n to allow time to drop off your vehicle and check in for your 6pm flight.

Please take note of the comment I made in #3 regarding that driving from Melbourne to Port Campbell in one day is just too far.

Yep skip the party the night before that is wise and sensible. If you have booked accommodation at Port Campbell I would look at changing that to Apollo Bay if you can.
