A weekend in Hobart, what to do?

Hi all,

We are planning a very quick visit to Hobart soon. Arriving on Saturday morning so that will give us a chance to visit Salamanca Market then MONA. We have a full day on Sunday (til around 9pm) and wondering what to do then.

We are not really into bush walking or museum or art galleries. We are not sure what we want to do yet so would like some advice.

We are thinking of coming back for a trip around Tasmania in a near future, but this time just a short visit to Hobart.

Thanks for your help.

Sunday morning, Salamanca Markets down on the wharfs is a wonderful feast of colour, food and wine. Followthat by a drive up Mt. Wellington and there are several great harbour cruises that do afternoon tea too. Enjoy....

Hi,

Plenty of attractions to see in Hobart - see link below - Will you have a car ?

IMO; visiting Port Arthur is a must do whilst in Hobart. ..or maybe take a river cruise to Peppermint Bay for lunch.

Thank you everyone.....

We just returned from our first Hobart visit and will definitely visit Tassie again soon.....

We stayed at Grand Mercure which was in a great location, but we didn't really rate the breakfast there.

Saturday we went to Salamanca Market, had coffee there then we drove to Mt. Wellington. The view from the top was stunning, but super cold!!! It even started to snow a bit when we were there.... Then we went for a drive to Richmond to see the famous bridge and fed the ducks. Also went and had the afternoon tea at Richmond Bakery.

Before we left for Hobart, I had booked the Night Tour at Bonorong Park, so after Richmond we headed there for our night tour. I have to say that this tour was one of the best tour we've ever had. We spent a good 3 hours there feeding the kangaroos, the Tassie devil, sugar glide etc. it was also good to know that our money went to the conservation to help this animals. The staff were very passionate about their work and also very knowledgeable about each and every single animals in there. Highly recommended to go and visit.

On our way back we stopped by Salamanca Market and had dinner at Ball and Chain. The steak was delicious and just the right size too. We had a small size steak and didn't have any problems with getting in at 9pm on Saturday.

Sunday - we had a ferry booked to MONA at 11am and back at 3pm. We were done by 12pm and couldn't wait to get out of MONA. It was a very disappointing experience for us as we didn't understand the hive about it. We couldn't care less about paintings that depicted young children naked nor indecent paintings that depicted private parts of human body. We are not prudes but this is definitely not our cup of tea.

So, with extra hours to spend we started to browse the TA forums to figure out what to do with the rest of our times before our flight back. So, decided to walk around the city centre which was at around 1-2pm looked like a deserted town... Lol Next, we headed off to check out the casino which was just a casino but we got free drinks while we were there... Lol

Went back to Salamanca market to check out all the shops that we missed on our first visit, then had a lovely fish and chips at the constitution dock.

We decided to kill the last few hours by going to the State Cinema. OMG... That place was amazing..... A very nice place where you can take a glass of wine or two with you while you enjoy the movie. Definitely one of the must do in Hobart.

Thank you all for all of your suggestions and advice.... We will come back to explore the rest of Tassie.

Glad you enjoyed most of your trip, LittleQT.

Bonorong is simply excellent, IMO and it's always worth a visit.

Sorry you didn't like MONA. It's definitely not everyone's cup of tea.
