Visit Port Arthur

(Which area should we stay for nite? Any recommendation for Hotel?)

Day 5

(Port Arthur > Coles Bay)

Stop by Swansea - Kate's Berry Farm

Coles Bay - Wineglass Bay (suitable for 2 young kids?

Area to stay / hotel?

Day 6

Bicheno Blowhole

Bay of Fires

Area to stay / hotel?

Day 7

(Launceston)

Cataract gorge in the morning

Tamar Valley - Lavender fields after lunch

(What's else to visit?)

Hotel?

Day 8

Drive to Cradle Mountain - walk dove lake

Hotel in cradle mountain?

Day 9

Return car

Fly home

We have another spare day, where should we "insert" and use it? Any advise.

For hotels, except for first 3 nites in hobart, need advise on where (area/ town) to stay and if possible, advise on hotel. Looking for hotels that have room with 2 double beds or 1 king + single so that the kids can stay with us in same room.

Thanks

It would help to know when you are travelling.

I don't think you have time to do Sorell Fruit Farm on Day 4. Do it on Day 5. You drive through Sorell again on that day.

The walk to Wineglass Bay Lookout is suitable for kids.

On Day 5, stay at Bicheno in the evening and do the penguin tour that night. It will also save time and you can go to Bay of Fires beach on the way to Launceston on Day 6.

The alvender farm is in flower in December/January. Again, when are you travelling? If you went from Bicheno to Bay of Fires and then west through Scottsdale on Day 6, you could see the lavender farm on the way to Launceston.

There's a great deal tpo see and do around Launceston in the Tamar Valley. Have a look at the Top Questions on the right hand side of the Launceston forum page.

Accommodation options at Cradle include Highlanders, Wilderness Village and Discovery Holiday park.

Which airport are you flying out of?

Hi Travel,

Agree with Luigi about day 5 with Sorell Fruit Farm.

Also on day 2, on the way to Mt Fiel/Russell Falls have a look at the Salmon Ponds, small but very well kept, lots of fish and the for $2 a bag the kids can feed the salmon.

Day 9 is relaxing if your flying out Launceston, big drive if you're flying out of Hobart. Lots do, see and eat if flying out of Launceston, so which airport are you flying out of?

You will need to pre-book your accommodation, and make sure you've booked your rental car,we've had a few over the years who have forgotten to book their car in the peak period, only to find out there are NO cars left, Tassie gets quite busy in Summer, early Decmebre will be busy up until Christmas, after it can get hectic.

Let us know which airport you fly out of?

Safe travels - Robert

Hi,

Further to the advice of the others which is excellent for adults I don't see anything in your itinerary that would interest children of that age group other than Port Arthur, the Tasman Island cruise, penguins and the peacocks and chair lift at Cataract Gorge!!

Are we there yet? Are we there yet? I'm bored!

Just waiting for feedback on which airport out, if it's Launy, lots for kids to see and do.

Hi Rob T,

I meant the OPs itinerary not yours! However at that age and .........now I would feed the salmon something with a hook in it.

I was about the age of the OPs kids the first time I visited Port Arthur and loved the experience, (of course it was still operating as a convict prison then). I agree Launceston has something for children of all ages. But what about all the other kid things like wildlife (devils, quolls, wombats etc), fishing, adventure etc

Cheers,

Thank you all for the advice. We planning travel 1st week of December, how likely to see Lavender field?

On last day, will be flying out Launceston airport at 1pm, enough time to drive from Cradle mountain to airport? ( return car, refill fuel, check-in)

Will also have a spare day, where should we be extending the nite / activities? Welcome any recommendation.

Thanks

Bridestowe Lavender Farm will be beautiful in December. http://bridestowelavender.com.au/pub/

It will take about 2.5 hours to drive from Cradle Mountain to Launceston Airport. You will be OK.

Take a look at heading into the Huon Valley south-west of Hobart for a day to visit Tahune Airwalk and the apple orchards down there.

Hi, on Day 8 your kids would love Trowunna Wildlife Park near Mole Creek on highway (B12) from Deloraine, if you do go make sure your there for one of the tours 11am, 1pm and 3pm, your kids will be able to pat a devil and they might be able to cuddle a wombat (they're heavy, a bit of luck they might bring out a small one), a wonderful experience for kids.

Also between Deloraine and Mole Creek at the little town of Chudliegh they have the honey farm, and they sell great honey sweetened ice creams, yum.

Hope this helps.

Safe travels - Robert
