1 day in Adelaide

We arrive on a cruise ship for 1 day in Adelaide. Any suggestions for wine tours in the area and possibly include a stop at Handorf?

If you only have one day available and wines are a big interest, I would suggest to save time and travel the National Wine Centre in the CBD (hosted by the University of Adelaide), which will provide a selection of offerings from all wine regions around the state, and 120 wines available for tasting.

That same street (North Terrace) also holds the Convention Centre, Casino, Train Station, Parliament House, Government House, War Memorial, State Library, Art Gallery, Museum, and Botanical gardens, so you could get a bit of culture and experience what Adelaide has to offer, all within a 500m stretch.....then right behind is the Festival Theatre, River Torrens, St Peters Cathedral, Adelaide Oval, and Adelaide zoo.

Hi Janines, I mostly agree with Ranger_Aust. The National Wine Centre has a very good selection of wines to taste etc. And a visit to the city of Adelaide would let you get your 'land legs' back for a day! However if you would like the atmosphere of the vineyard the countryside and the cellar door then a day trip is the best way to go. Hahndorf is very interesting to visit and if it is open The Cedars is very worthwhile if you are interested in art. There are a number of companies that provide day tours or you may consider hiring a private driver and tailor a day-out to your requirements. Will it be our summer when you are visiting?

A great selection of ideas from ranger...yes he is correct, plenty to see and do all along north terrace...to get to the wine centre just keep walking past the botanic gardens along botanic road which is an extension of north terrace, and turn left at the lights and you see the wine centre which looks a lot like noahs ark.

To get into the city .....walk from the ship, to the outer harbour train station. Have some coins and get a day ticket each and validate them in the other machine near door entry. Get off at the end of line in adelaide city and past parliment house and cross king william street and that is north terrace.by the way when you get to train station grab an outer harbour line timetable so you know what train to catch for your return trip. When returning ensure you get the train AT THE FRONT as often they double up and you can be sitting in a carriage that doesnt move as the first train in front of it went instead. Its not a very big station!

if you want to scoot up to hahndorf...you can use your day ticket to get the bus. Get on a tram free...to pultney street and the bus to handorf leaves stop G1 on the east side...it takes 45minutes, but leaves every hour so you will need to check adelaide metro website for the timetable. If you are keen on going there calculate your time backwards as to when you need to be back at the ship. Time your walk and train in the morning coming into town to allow same time to get back.

but really there is so much to see and do in the city I wouldnt bother going to hahndorf. Its just a little village with lots of shops really.

have a fun cruise♡

Also from the NAtional Wine Centre.. don't miss the Tasting Room ... walk from the Wine Centre through our botanic gardens to the East End of Rundle Street and you'll discover all sorts of amazing boutique wines at the Tasting Room in Vardon place (near the corner of Rundle St and East Terrace) Have a coffee at ETC (east Terrace Continental) on your way through and then after the Tasting Room .. take a wander up Rundle Street. Easy day out !
