6 days at the Whitsunday's from 7th March

Hi everyone, I'd love some advice please.

My party of 5 consists of two couples and and a friend in our early 30s. Mix of English and Oz.

We're traveling from Sydney to the Whitsundays on the 7th March for 6 days. Where would be best to fly to?

Can anyone recommend what to do while we're there?

We would like a 2 night sailing trip but are not sure which boats are good to go on, we're looking for people of similar age with a good social scene (not crazy though). Has anyone been on a good trip recently? Can you let us know the price you paid?

Can anyone suggest what else is good to go and see in the area?

Wheres good to stay in the low to mid price range?

Any must dos or sees? Good websites?

THanks for any help

Nicole

For boat trips check out www.wcbia.com.au (all members adhere to industry standards) 3 of your days will be taken up with your sailing trip. A few other things to do would be to hang around the lagoon or hire one of those cool cars from Fun Rentals and head out to Conway Beach an Cedar Creek falls for the day.

Hi guys,

There are 2 airports you could fly into. Hamilton Island Airport or Proserpine (Whitsunday Coast) is on the mainland and the closest for access to boat trip departure points and Airlie Beach accommodation.

Have a look at our website www.tourismwhitsundays.com.au for some ideas on what to see and do.

There's a variety of accommodation in Airlie Beach, depending on your criteria. If you wanted to speak to someone about it, you could email our Information Centre on info@tourismwhitsundays.com.au and they could go through the options and prices with you of hotels & boats.

Regarding boats, with couples it might be an idea to go for a small-medium sized boat with private double cabins to afford the couples some privacy. Some trips take as few as 8 passengers, which means you 5 would make up most of the "social scene" but a boat with 12-20 might offer more - it depends what you think will suit you guys best.

Happy holiday planning,

Cheers,TW

Would definitely recommend 'Wings' with Island Dive. The best 3 days of my life. AMAZING!

If you want to spend any time on Hamilton Island I suggest you fly into HI airport and have a night ( or more) on the Island before heading off to Airlie Beach or any other spots. This is because it costs a small fortune to do a day trip to Hamilton Island from anywhere else, but it is much cheaper to go from HI to Airlie beach. There is a reasonable range of accommodation options on the Island to suit various budgets, but no hostel or backpacker type places. You can check the website for the options and prices etc.

If you do decide to fly into Proserpine, you will find it more economical to book a night on Hamilton Island with transfer included, than to try and do a day trip to the Island as the ferry fee to get to HI is horrific.

On the other hand the day trip to Long Island Resort was good value and we had a good time there. It is not fancy but it is a very relaxing, tropical island and well priced. If you want to stay on Long Island the accommodation is strictly budget (ie 2 star), or else there is a very pricey but beautiful Peppers resort at the other end of the Island which is heavenly but not cheap. Great food and facilities though.

Plenty of sailing trips to suit all budgets etc-check the boards and the travel shops in Airlie Beach for last minute rates too.

Plenty of places to stay in Airlie Beach -self catering/ resort style/motel and cabins . Be aware much of the accomm is up a very steep hill so you will get good views but a steep hike to get there. The Airlie Beach Hotel is not bad -well priced and good spot right in the centre of things with no steep hill.
