Is Hamilton island the best place to see & hold koalas ?

Part of our trip will be spent in Sydney and we are hoping to visit the wildlife centre there. We will also be spending some time on the Gold Coast so I'm wondering, will Hamilton island be the best place to interact with the koalas ? I get the impression that it will be more laid back & easy going on the island with less crowds etc ?

Thanks

Just back from Hamilton Island.

THere is a restaurant which specialises in "breakfast with the Koalas" so you can interact - at a price.

Although, for us it was free to eat breakfast there we never did - ti did not appear to be particularly clean the one time we went, so we walked out again.

You can get close to koalas in various places but at the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary, Brisbane, you are guaranteed the chance to cuddle a koala for $16 which includes a photo. When I was there the girl who took the photo took another 3 photos of me and my koala friend with my own camera. I was on my own and had no one else to take photos. There are also fantastic opportunities to see koala babies with their Mums. I saw lots of koalas during our holiday in the wild as well as in wildlife parks/

Absolutely agree! I was there several years ago (by myself also) and had virtually the same experience. The staff took several pictures with my camera in addition to the "official photo" and were very helpful. Highly recommend the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary especially if you have kids, but even if you don't, you'll love it.

This reply is probably a little late for your trip, but if anyone is else is wondering as well, Dreamworld on the Gold Coast (Coomera) also have an Australian wildlife area with koalas.
